This theory and practical workshop based course starts with the growing and roasting of the beans and leads you through the process of extracting the perfect espresso and making the complete menu of espresso drinks.
You will learn, understand and put into practice the basics of espresso coffee. Also included is coffee cultivation and processing, roasting and blending, different coffee styles, coffee bean storage, grinder setting, adjustment and milk texturing and espresso machine cleaning.

This qualification reflects the role of commercial cooks who use a wide range of well-developed cookery skills and sound knowledge of kitchen operations to prepare food and menu items. Using discretion and judgement, they work with some independence and under limited supervision using work plans, policies and procedures to guide work activities. Work may occur in a variety of settings, including hotels, restaurants, pubs, cafes, functions, events, residential facilities and lunch bars.
You will also learn skills to produce quality foods, plan menus, prepare food according to dietary or cultural needs, control costs, work as part of a team, and serve a range of meals in a professional manner. In this accredited course you will gain hands on practical experience in preparing food and beverages including a comprehensive introduction to the kitchen, bar, and front of housework areas. You will gain experience in making and serving coffee and sandwiches, serving customers and handling customer complaints as well as the ins and outs of opening and closing a venue. Upon completion of this course you will have gained the practical skills to enter and work in a local café, restaurant or bar. This course is supported by Tourism Western Australia.
