SR TAFE Managing Director Darshi Ganeson congratulates Amanda Smith for being inducted into the WorldSkills Hall of Fame.

Bunbury cookery lecturer Amanda Smith has been welcomed into the WorldSkills Hall of Fame for her outstanding contributions over 11 years of volunteering with the prestigious trades competition.

For 11 years Amanda has helped to train and mentor student competitors, and has judged at regional and national championships.

Amanda says she was honoured to receive the award and has always enjoyed the camaraderie that comes from being involved in WorldSkills.

“What I enjoy most about the volunteering work, whether training or judging, is the satisfaction of supporting a young competitor’s development pathway,” she said.

“They have an amazing  opportunity for self-development and to excel beyond competency standards to proudly represent their region and or State.”

SR TAFE Managing Director Darshi Ganeson congratulated Amanda on her well-deserved recognition.

“She is a passionate champion of our student competitors and the college’s efforts to help them to perform at the highest level,” Ms Ganeson said.

“Amanda has enjoyed sharing in their success and she is an inspiration for her training colleagues.

Ms Ganeson wished Amanda all the best for her third time as a national chief judge in the WorldSkills national championships in Melbourne next year.

Chief judge responsibilities include developing the competition pack and the logistics and sustainability involved with equipment set up in convention and exhibition spaces.

Amanda encouraged all training staff regardless of trade to consider volunteering in WorldSkills at a regional level and see what opportunities it could bring.

“The satisfaction and reward from seeing young competitors do their personal best, and the support you have given them on their journey is just wonderful,” she said.
