If you're looking for a way to ensure your team is operating efficiently and effectively to consistent standards, and adopting up to date industry practices, existing worker traineeships (EWTs) could be your solution.

Through structured on the job learning your team will deepen and broaden their workplace skills and knowledge and get a nationally recognised vocational education and training (VET) qualification. 

EWTs are also an excellent way to develop career pathways for your existing workers and can also help to build loyalty and long term commitment from your workforce.

Course fees are currently reduced by 72 per cent for the following existing worker traineeships, and an annual fees cap applies —  $400 for persons aged under 25 and concession holders, and $1,200 for all others — offering you a significant saving on these qualifications.

Early Childhood Education and Care

CHC50113 – Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care

For your experienced workers, the Diploma EWT provides high level knowledge of ethical work practices; regulatory and legal compliance; workplace safety and duty of care; planning, implementing and managing programs; meeting children's social, emotional, physical and educational needs; observing and recording behaviour; and working with culturally diverse clients. It's the ideal qualification for upskilling workers into team leader, supervisor or manager roles. 

CHC30113 – Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care

Ideal for unqualified and/or newer workers, the Certificate III EWT covers a range of core skills and knowledge including working within legal, ethical and regulatory requirements and health and safety. Workers will learn about working with children and families from diverse backgrounds and cultures; health and hygiene principles; nutritional needs for different ages; developing and implementing play experiences; child development stages; and working effectively in a team environment. ​​

Ageing and individual support

CHC33015 - Certificate III in Individual Support

If you have new or unqualified workers, this qualification provides a solid foundation of skills and knowledge for workers in the aged care, disability, or individual support sectors — including for clients in residential care or those who are receiving in-home or community-based support. Its focus is on person-centred care; and is aligned with industry best practice and regulations in all aspects of service provision.

CHC43015 - Certificate IV in Ageing Support

This qualification is ideal for those with experience and for upskilling staff for more senior roles. It provides your existing workers with a deeper understanding of issues concerning aged clients; and high level skills to plan, develop, implement and monitor programs and services; assess client needs; plan and conduct group and recreation programs; and to monitor services, health and safety and policies and procedures in line with required regulations. 

In general terms, a person who has already been working for you for more than three months at full time equivalent is considered to be an existing worker, and would be eligible for an existing worker traineeship. A 'full time equivalent’ could be based on part time, casual or full time work; and approved leave is included in the time calculation.

An existing worker traineeship works in much the same way as a regular traineeship. The extent of any off the job training required will be negotiated between yourself, the trainee, and the training provider to ensure that business needs are accommodated.

An AASN (Australian Apprenticeship Support Network) provider will work with you to choose a qualification and a training provider that suits your needs, and will organise all the paperwork for you, including lodging the training contract with the Department of Training and Workforce Development's Apprenticeship Office.
