Make a positive difference to the lives of others 

A career in the ageing or disability sector can be very rewarding. You can get started in one of the fastest growing work forces in Western Australia and make a positive difference to the lives of others.

This is an exciting opportunity to start a career that makes a difference and supports a person to reach their goals, engage with the community and meet their support needs.

As part of this course you will attend a work placement with an employer where you will gain real, hands on industry experience and secure a ‘foot in the door’.

By completing the Ageing and Disability Job Ready Program, you may:

  • Be offered a job with your work placement employer
  • Be offered an aged care or disability work traineeship
  • Use your skills to transition into an allied health occupation
  • Gain employer references
  • Be connected with other employment opportunities within these sectors or
  • Complete further studies

Free

If you're aged 15—24 years (not at school), receiving Youth Allowance, AUSTUDY or ABSTUDY or holding a pensioner concession card, Health Care Card or a Repatriation Health Benefits Card issued by the Department of Veterans' Affairs, or a dependent of persons who are inmates of a custodial institution, you are eligible to enrol for free!

* Please note that eligibility requirements apply to some of the free training.

Infection control

The Skills Ready infection control skill sets are totally free, for everyone*! 

Please note The minimum age requirement for the Entry Into Care Roles and the COVID-19 Direct Care skill sets is 18 years. For the other infection control skill sets, students must be 15 years of age or older.

Skill-sets

This skill set is related to the Skills Ready program. Other skill sets can be found on our Courses (opens in a new tab) page, using the Refine course results>Study mode filters.

*! The free training is available to permanent residents of Western Australia.

Temporary residents holding one of the following visa types are also eligible:

  • holders of a sub-class 309, 444, 785, 790, 820 or 826 visa;
  • secondary holders of a temporary visa of sub-class 457; and
  • holders of a Bridging Visa E (subclasses 050 and 051) where the visa holder has made a valid application for a visa of subclass 785 or 790.

Who is not eligible

  • Persons living outside of Western Australia, or Australia, are not eligible.
  • International students and people on a student visa are not eligible.
  • Students who are still at school are not eligible, and cannot enrol in the free skill sets. 

All students must be over 18 years of age.

To enter the ageing or disability sector, you will need to meet the following requirements:

  • NDIS worker screening check
  • Current Flu vaccine
  • National Criminal History Record Check

Please note, you may be required to meet additional requirements to enter the workforce, however these may be sector or work place specific and you will be notified if you are required to meet any additional requirements.

How to Apply

Should your expression of interest show you are the right fit for the industry, you will be invited to attend an information session, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and get access to lecturers and information about work placement employers.
